We have moved to Blair Valley Campground, about 25 miles north of Mountain Springs Campground. We are about 2000 feet higher so the nights will be colder but the days should be similar.

Hiked to the top of Ghost Mountain 8.1 miles ( 13.5 klm) . On this location a man named Marshall South built a home with his wife and 3 children. They lived there for 17 years from 1930 to 1947. He objective was to build a home in the desert on this mountain top and to live of the land. He wrote articles for a magazine about desert living to supplement his income.
The hike was 3.2 miles to the bottom of the mountain

He had to carry all the materials and supplies the 1/2 mile from this. When you get to the top of this hill there was a short level distance and then another steep climb. |

the steeper areas of the climb looked like this |

The round stone structure was the fireplace, behind Rose was they built a water gathering system |

The house was built in a bowl at the top of the mountain |

I assume he would have ad to carry the cement up to the top that was used to hold the stones together |

seems to be a lot of BC people in that area.
Wow … hard to imagine getting materials to the top off the mountain to build a house, but also how a family could actually live there. You earned 'extra desert' after that hike!
Hi Shayne
There are a lot of BC and Alberta people here. In some campsites they are in most of the spots. Relatively close for them.
Hi Lera
It was a cold beer and then a dessert.
