We took a down day, to just relax and get caught up un a few things. We walked downtown along Navajo drive, the main street and the along old Route 66. Most of the towns along Route 66 are really run down with many empty buildings. I find it amazing that interstate 40 was built to replace Route 66 about 60 years ago and these towns have never recovered.

| This hotel along route 66 has about 20 or so wigwams that you can rent for the night. The yard is full of old interesting cars from the 50 's and 60's. Behind the wigwams there is a 2 story conventional motel |

Sign outside of the McDonalds. Minimum wage went to $12.80 per hour from $12.15 on January 1st. They must have difficulty hiring here as well as this town doesn't have any large employers, and would have a lower than average income as compared to most cities.

We found a place to empty our tanks at a Maverik Gas station . They offer this service at no charge to RVs but unfortunately because it is still below freezing most nights, they don't have the water turned on yet. After a bit of searching we found a water tap at the city hall than was winterized and working. Hopefully we will be in a warmer area by the time we need our next fill.

I hope the freezing temperatures soon disappear. I had plenty of snow to shovel this morning and more is expected today. It's very pretty!!
I really like the route 66, looks kind og old with history as well of the small town along it, would like to drive down that highway.
We have covered most of route 66 in Arizona over the years. You could spend a couple of weeks just following this road and it would make a great holiday. Our favorite place was the Road Kill Cafe. You could google it.
That Volks wagon camper would be a bit underpowered but it would sure be a conversation piece. We have had below freezing temperatures here every night so far, two mornings our pipes were frozen and we didn't have any water. The bonus is that it is a beautiful 10 to 15 degrees during the day. Perfect for hiking. Sure beats -24. LOL
