Wed Feb 8 St Augustine

St Augustine is the oldest city in USA

The city has been turned into a bit of a tourist trap with all sorts of attractions.
We only did a couple but there are many more.

This is the front door to the jail. The sheriff lived with his family in living quarters attached to the jail.

When the locals got out of hand they would put them in this cage and hang the cage about 20 feet about the street where they would have to sing like a bird for their bread and water.

The gallows where the  prisoners could watch the hanging from their prison cells.

A bit of history about the jail

Checking out to see how soft the beds were

The Old General Store
A museum of all the things that would be sold in a general store around 1900

They have one street of shops about 10 blocks long

The Cathedral Basilica in the center of historic St Augustine

The fort built to protect the city
