March 14 Carlsbad City Sand Storm

We have beem camping of BLM land about 15 miles from the caves on a pretty flat open space while we were visiting this area. We were getting high winds even though we are not in the storm area east of us. When the winds get over 30 -40 klm per hour, it would rock our camper even with the 4 support legs  down taking all the weight of the springs.

We moved into the City of Carlsbad (pop 31000) so we could get closer to building that would provide wind braeks. While we were driving into town the gusts would actually move the camper on the road. Twice yesterday while we were parked there were emergency warnings sent out over our phone that there would be zero visibility on some places on the highway and to pull over, shut of your engines off and turn off the lights until the visibility improved.  Driving in this sand storm is just like driving in a white out snow storm

The dust was so thick you couldn't see a half block away even in the city.

Good to learn that you are safe after the intense wind storms. I certainly read about them in States east & north of you. You would be able to use your experience driving in intense winter snowstorms!
