After hiking Ubehebe Crater we moved to Furnace Creek
The crater is 1/2 mile across and 500 feet deep |
We hiked to the bottom |
the view from 1/4 way down |
2/3 way down |
view from the bottom |
view from top |
we walked the 1.5 miles around the rim |
walking the rim |
we descended into the crater by the path on the right and went up by the middle path |
From the bottom it didn't look that different , except that the middle path was shorter and steeper. After we had committed to the center path we discovered that it was a ridiculous amount steeper, and loose gravel all the way to the top |

It's unfortunate you got caught on the steepest path and with loose gravel. That would take away from a 'relaxing' walk.
It really wasn't a relaxing walk either way,no matter how you put it. There was about 3 inches of loose stone on the path. We were sliding going down about an inch with each step and maybe 2 inches on each step going up.
Ok to say we did it but it was not a recommended hike
